Did you know that getting enough quality sleep is essential to your health?
Sleep helps regulate hormone levels and growth, as well as helps your body repair itself. It also helps you focus and think clearly.
Most adults need between seven and nine hours of sleep each night, but everyone's different. Some people need less than that, some more. If you're having trouble falling asleep or staying asleep, it might be worth talking to a doctor about what's going on and how best to fix it.
Sleep is one of the most important parts of life. It's when we recharge our batteries and prepare for the next day. But getting enough sleep can be difficult, especially if you're not sure what you need to do to get better quality sleep.
We've compiled a list of SMARTstrategies that will help you get the best sleep possible:
- S: Set a Schedule - set a bedtime and wake-up time, and stick to them every day
- M: Make Your Bedroom Sleep-friendly - use blackout curtains or shades so light doesn't disturb your sleep, keep electronics out of the room, and minimize noise in your bedroom by investing in thick carpeting or soundproofing materials
- A: Associate Your Bedroom with Sleep - make sure it's free from distractions like pets or electronics so that when you enter it at night, you know it's time for rest
- R: Relax Before Bedtime - take some time each evening before bed to unwind with meditation or a relaxing bath (or both!)
- T: Track Your Progress - create a log of when you wake up in the morning so that you can see how much sleep is helping improve your mood and energy levels
